THE EYE ARTS GUILD
We like to draw and paint. The Eye Arts Guild was founded over thirty years ago for like-minded creatives who enjoyed getting together to practise their craft. And it's much the same today. We have around fifty members, meet on a weekly basis, and share the pleasure of drawing and painting in each other's company.
Meetings are on a Thursday; in the winter indoors at the Eye Bowls Club usually for the morning from 10am to 1pm, and in the summer outside when we travel to interesting places in the region of Eye and sometimes a little further afield from around 10 am to 3pm. The aim is to encourage painting from life, indoors or out. At the end of our sessions we gather round to talk about the work we have done that day.
Full details of the current programme can be found under EVENTS.
Between them, members embrace most of the usual painting and drawing techniques: some have been to art school and worked professionally, others are enthusiastic amateurs. We learn from each other and also from the occasional workshops and tutorials arranged throughout the year, sharing different skills and taking inspiration from collage, printing techniques, wax relief, embroidery or sculpture as well as talks, or demonstrations, on both traditional and new ways with the usual media.
The club is run by the members for the members. We take turns to organise our morning sessions and share the admin involved with setting up both summer and winter programmes. We aim to hold one or two exhibitions a year locally. There is an AGM (when a working committee is voted in) in the Autumn and a Christmas Party in December, as well as occasional days out. (Please see EVENTS.)
The GALLERY on this website displays some of our work. All members are invited to show work here. We may also sell direct from this site at a later date, meanwhile to purchase work please use the Contact facility on the CONTACTS page.
The Guild is largely self-funding and non-profit making. The annual sub is £17. Morning sessions in the Bowls Club are £3 each. Special workshop fees (day or half-day) are around £10 to £15 each. Summer gatherings are free.
Information about joining can be obtained from our Membership Secretary, who will be pleased to respond to enquiries through the CONTACTS page on this site.
