I counted 17 members this morning - still a good turnout, especially with the depressing weather that seems to have been hanging over us for so many weeks now. Jill's still life, with it's promise of summer flowers, and hats to keep the sun from your eyes, was a lift to the spirits. Her first pose was very bold, as you can see below, and hard on the knees! After coffee break, she settled in to a longer, more comfortable pose. You can see the foreshortening I had to look at in the last photo below. Good practice! Frances worked from the still life (first with a representational drawing and then playing with the shapes she could see in it) and then drew Jill. Here are Jackie's portraits, together with Sandra's These are Laurens's (the first four), and Penny's These from Sally T and Jane And these are by Ian J, who was trying out a new technique involving scribbling in the first of these. I [Hannah] had a go at Sally P's technique, but there was a fair amount of cheating in producing this still life. I spoiled it anyway by adding colour - should have remembered that I wouldn't be able to get rid of it once I'd added it. The portrait has the full foreshortening of Jill's legs, but I think it is mostly OK. Next week Angela is doing a workshop for her session, on the theme of 'Looking at Shape and Tone in Composition'. There are more details on the Stop Press page, including a list of equipment to bring. There won't be a model or a still life, but you may come and bring something of your own to work on, if you want to.
