Five go Mad in Beccles! Well not quite, but the quay was quite busy with pleasure boats and paddle boards, so there was plenty to draw, and although the grass was very dry there were some nice purple Loose strife to add pops of colour too.

Sally P had a bit of a battle with her sketch book ( see above) but she soldiered on, and produced three pieces of work in pencil with some water soluble pencil, (the purple loosestrife),  and in  the final picture , some mooring posts.

​Frances started at the quay and then progressed to the view over the marshes from the church.

​Lesley painted the view of the river towards Geldeston and the old iron bridge.

​Jackie picked a quiet riverside spot, a perfect sunny summers day.

and I chose the cut beside the river for it’s calmer water and reflections.

Ian was also by water, the sea in his case, two sketches from Constantine Bay  in Cornwall, a very different coastline.

​Diana has sent in two collage views of Beccles. Very cleverly put together, and the Lido was just like that yesterday, full of happy swimmers. Including me! Although sadly I’m not in her picture.

Some lucky people have apparently still got  flowers in their garden.
Harriet has sent two pictures, the first of a rose, and the second of an Agapanthus flower spike.

and Carolyn has sent a coloured pencil drawing of a purple Hibiscus flower.

Avril has been busy with visitors, but managed to fit in a bit of sketching too, a Roman soldier, an Aztec stone mask, a sketch of her garden, and  a lovely picture of a tired wet Bob.

First, an apology.  I am so out of practice, following cancelled visits and failure to get to any of the venues that have been possible to get to this summer, that I entirely forgot to take photos at coffee time this morning.  I can only say that by counting the chairs, there were thirteen of us then.  Some left, some arrived, during the morning.  The weather held.  Laurens was a great host - plenty of coffee, tea and cakes.  The dogs loved having us there, but we were spoilsports and wouldn't play 'catch' however many times we were asked.  The puppies looked like they were enjoying the company, and the moorhens levitated across the pond. I'm not sure whether the rogue chicken was caught!  The house and garden are just perfect for a visit from an art group!
Anyway, I am very grateful to Jackie for sending the photo of teatime (by which time the numbers had dropped drastically), and the photos of some of the work done today by herself and others. I can only apologise to the others who are not shown in these photos.

From Frances, a busy day today, 'First A5 sketch of part of front. Second pencil from back thinking about geometry. Third larger free sketch which I enjoyed doing and fourth very quick sketch of thistle type plant.'  Come to think of it, there was a huge patch of these thistle type things along the road in Little Green, glowing with purple...

We went to Sue's garden this week, and although it was hot we all managed to keep in the shade. Sue was a great host, filling us with tea, coffee, cold water and lovely cake. Her garden is lovely too, with plenty of interest, lots of pots with colourful flowers, trees and a mini digger! Here are some pictures of her garden and EAG artists

Lesley arrived in time for tea. She had been with her textile group and it was their last session before the summer. She took a dyed piece material (snow dyed - i.e. covered with snow and sprinkled with dye powder to get the interesting effect) which was passed around and each person embroidered something on it for 10 minutes.

"Still in France, but here are some pics.

First I just want to explain that last week I sent some sketches of a chateau and a view from it at Amboise… where Leonardo had spent his last three years. It was fascinating.

This week I am enjoying playing with cyanotype once more. Then a quick sketch done last evening from the front of our house here and an acrylic called ‘Sun or Flower? ‘"

"When I was  about 20 , Michael and I spent the summer at the official dig at Sutton Hoo. We were going through the spoil heaps of the original dig and found odd bits of silver and copper .There were a few elderly people there who had been on the original dig who had stories of precious objects being taken home as souvenirs! Also did some more flower painting."

And here is Carolyn's Giraffe:

"Attached is the last of my African animals. (My friend took great care to make the giraffe symmetrical, while drinking, to get this unusual pose) Just a bit of fun!"

Sorry to say that the event has been cancelled due to the extreme hot weather, the Quayside does not have much shade and it would be gruelling to draw in such heat.

​Decided against going down to Woodbridge today as far too hot and sunny.
Sat in the garden for the Hydrangeas which I did in watercolour.
The next 3 show my drawing progression of my pitcher plant using water soluble pencil. I love the structure of these amazing plants and the way the pitchers hang.

Hi all,
Am now back in the  UK, in a very hot Ramsgate marina, after sailing from Calais yesterday. Not much time for sketching so these two are all I've done this week. Top one is the old Georgian  lighthouse guarding Ramsgate harbour entrance, second in old dock in Calais, of the bows of the yacht moored next to us - Lesley

​Guess what -  I've drawn a hare ( who hasn't!!)  this morning-  attached- The plan is to put it either in a harvest field , flower meadow or hedgerow. Another take on the pic I did for the Bank exhibition  this time  with the vegetation in the background rather than the foreground.
Still a long long way to go.

1. Mill and yellow boat, we were there last Saturday and had our sandwiches near the boat. We went to view the construction of the Sutton Hoo replica boat, which was very impressive. I didn't take a picture though - should have done!

The other view is sunrise and snow - I just thought I would have a go.

Such glorious colours in the landscape this time of year but sometimes frustrating when trying to mix the right hue.

Next weeks blogger is Harriet

We seem to be living a Plein air version of The Three Bears, too wet, too hot, and this week too windy! Let’s hope that next week it will be ‘just right’.
But ten of us were ready for the challenge papers clamped to boards, hats clamped to heads, paint drying as fast as we could apply it. ( several people sensibly opted for pencils)

Penny was sitting near Angela’s lovely wildlife pond bordered by trees interesting marginal plants and dragonflies, working on her pencil study of a tree, and also the side of the shed in pencil.

Harriet was attracted to the view across the fields, a stretch of summer green punctuated by some almost lollipop like willow trees.

Sally P drew a detailed pencil sketch of the shed, and a colour study of the foliage round the pond

Jackie painted a view through to the fields from the back garden, (apologies for the quality of the picture Jackie) and a lovely pencil study of the hammock,

Lesley worked on an acrylic picture of a  view over the small pond, that she had started on a previous visit.

And I sketched a similar view of the smaller pond pond, and a larger view across the garden to the fields beyond

Angela was working on some oil and cold wax pictures from her studio, beautiful colour studies, we all loved the Turquoise house.

Avril has been working from home, the Bayeaux tapestry? Perhaps for her next textiles project?

and Frances has sent some holiday images, a decorative urn at Hinton Ampner Dorset, Poole harbour, and a sketch of St Malo from the car deck,

And finally a very sweet drawing of a baby elephant from Carolyn, whose friends have just returned from a safari. I’m surprised that they weren’t tempted to bring him home!
