SALLY LADBROOKE

I tend to work from natural subjects, in landscape around the Norfolk Suffolk borders. I nearly always paint from life, or at least that is my starting point, and my subjects always have to have something, either colour, shape or composition, that grabs my attention.
I love working in watercolour, for it's subtlety and transparency, and the direction that it can steer a painting in, but I also like to experiment, using it in conjunction with other mediums, gouache, and acrylic inks, and water soluble wax crayons. All behave differently, and add subtle (or bright contrasting ) layers of colour which for me is one of the keys to a successful painting.
I’ve recently been making collage moth and fish pictures using gelliplate contact printed tissue sheet; I tear these up and draw into them. It’s been quite therapeutic really, during a time that's been rather disappointing for artists.
