SUE DOWNIE

Sue tries to give a feeling of light and space in her paintings. Her recent work stems from an interest in oriental culture and zen. Suminagashi is the Japanese form of marbling...literally floating ink. Because of the technique used the objects, whilst looking distinct, have a continuous pattern flowing through them. The suminagashi patterning can be reminiscent of pictures of the earth seen from space. The obscure title comes from The Tempest. Apologies to Shakespeare for using artist's license. The correct and full version is 'we are such stuff as dreams are made on ; and our little life is rounded with a sleep'.
