It was Les Bragg’s turn to organise the model and still life this week, but he has a cold and could not attend. (We wish you better soon, Les.) Sally P took over, provided a still life table and posed herself for the figure drawing. Next week Jackie will set up the still life and model.

But first, working from home, Carolyn has made a quick pencil drawing of their fireplace, a nod towards the hygge we can enjoy in our homes on cold winter days. I like the log basket.

Also presumably working from home, Jane did a beautiful pencil drawing of an orchid in a pot.

From Frances two images she has been playing with this week. First an unfinished oil painting of Dunwich, looking towards Walberswick (painted on top of something else). It took me right back to past EAG visiits to Dunwich. Second, Frances says playing with layers of a gelli print topped off with a lino ….. actually much smaller than the oil painting.

Avril sent us three photos of the model posing and 5 photos of her own artwork. Sally started off with some quick 1 minute poses, followed by some slightly longer stretches and poses (doing her daily exercise routines perhaps?) before settling down to a 45 minute pose facing backwards. After a quick break she then sat for an hour pose in a comfy chair.

John Walters has done a figure sketch in colour of Sally in one of her poses, presumably the comfy one. Rachel did the same pose, but just in pencil.

Freda divided her time between figure drawing and still life, showing her ability in both areas.

June did a beautiful rendering of the still life ...

... as did Jackie too, who says she chose the still life as the colours really sang out. She thought it would have been a good set up for acrylics too.

I understand there were 14 of you at the session today, but work from only about half of those present. Do help us to keep the blog going by sending in your work - to Hannah next time, as we do alternate weeks.

By the way, Sally has pointed out that they are no longer leaving the doors open because it was quickly realised that it was far too cold for everyone.

SUMMER EXHIBITION
We now have a date for this 14-17 July at the Diss United Reform Church. This has a large, light open space and is in Diss Town Centre. Some of you will remember our exhibiting there some years ago. Make a note of the dates in your diary and watch out for further details later.

Another freezing day and I was late. I wanted to reference Reggie Perrin and say, 'Fifteen minutes late - gas works on the A47' but the Yupo workshop had already started, so I kept quiet...
I am going to do something a bit different with the pictures today, as I went round taking photos as the ink and watercolour ran across the Yupo paper, and people wiped some off and then added more. I think that if I knew what I was doing, I could use some of the effects from today in a more planned way, but there is a good deal of fun to be had in playing with materials that you are not familiar with, and no pressure to produce a finished piece.

First, though, Carolyn has been busy at home in two ways - making Seville marmalade and also making a drawing to illustrate the marmalade. I like the light coming through the marmalade in the jar, clever use of the shadow below.

Diana didn't make it this morning either, so this week having carried on playing with Alkyds, she has sent the result. She says, 'Very thin and slippery, not sure what I’m doing ,the more I did the worse it got. Started off with sketch done on the spot at Zennor several years ago,remember having a very good ice cream.' Final result looks very interesting to me...

So now on to the workshop...
There were thirteen of us (as you can see, all hard at work) and Sally and Frances had brought in some examples for us to look at, including a finished piece by Frances.

It’s been freezing overnight but let’s hope this morning’s sunshine warmed things up a bit and everyone put their warmest woolies on for the Bowls Club. Lesley tells me there were 12 of you present at the session

Carolyn is first up with her free drawing of a cyclamen, in watercolour and watercolour pencil, which is well done. She muses on how such a small bulb produces so much growth. (Carolyn seems to be very good at keeping these plants going from year to year.)

Diana has been playing at home with Alkyds, which are so different from the water soluble oils she had been using so she has nothing to show yet. At the Bowls Club she worked on reflections in a shiny bucket - quick and enjoyable, she says. And very interesting for us to see the result in two stages. We can also see in the last photo a glimpse of her work set-up and of the portrait artists.

A good morning, says Jackie; the sunshine helped. Sally T became a walking model for the first part of the session which proved quite challenging but fun. Jackie adds: Am looking forward to next week when we experiment with Yupo paper under the guidance of Sally P and Frances.

These are Avril's efforts for today: three moving and two still poses.

Here are some recent sketches from Frances, two at Orford and one by Thelnetham Windmill. Last offering is a linocut she is working on.

Hannah has sent us some things she has been working on this week. First a large collage on board that has been pasted with newspaper and painted with acrylic, then two small collages made from sections of old painting with the purpose of maybe making new paintings.
(It will be interesting to see how these turn out.)

These are Harriet's pictures, two are still life drawings done at the Bowls Club and one is a painting she's been working on.

Sally P has been producing a small card for her Chinese pen friend for Chinese New Year.
