thursday 27.10.16, model and still life

27/10/2016

Angela modelled for us today and provided a garden theme for her still life.  After the usual buzz and chat while people organised themselves, they settled down to work and silence reigned till coffee break.  Then another hour or so painting and sketching until we put some of our pictures up for viewing and discussion - always an interesting time both for the more experienced and the less experienced among us.
Many thanks for today, Angela.  We are grateful to members who plan, prepare and model for us on these Thursdays.

Thursday 20.10.16:  model & still life

Inspired by the recent David Hockney exhibition, Sally L presented a still life set up with bright colours and bold shapes.  She was also dressed in bright, contrasting colours and encouraged us to think shades of orange, turquoise and blues in our morning’s work.  We may not have achieved quite the Hockney ideal, but it gave us all food for thought and produced some colourful images.

Thursday 13.10.16, model & still life

Today was our first 'action' meeting of the winter programme - and I do mean 'action'.  Rachel spent the first half of the morning doing poses of mostly only one or two minutes each.  I think there were a couple of half minutes thrown in and two (oh luxury!) of five minutes.  Each pose had different instructions:  left hand only, left and right alternatively, no looking at the paper, one continuous line only, straight lines only, outline first then fill in .... and so on.  Each was intended to exercise us in some way and wean us away from our normal habits.  After the break we had one long pose, if we were not too dazed to take advantage of it!  Those who preferred a more peaceful pursuit tackled Rachel's still life set-up.  Below are just a few examples.
Rachel obviously put a great deal of work into preparing and carrying out her tasks and we owe her many thanks for that.

There was no painting this Thursday as the AGM took place at the Eye Bowls Club on the first meeting of the Winter Programme.  It was a good meeting, with members participating with their views and suggestions.

The Chairman's Report will be published soon on this web-site.
