The great River Orwell, boats of all kinds, boatyards and old buildings, the famous Butt and Oyster pub, superb landscape - what more could one ask for to satisfy our desire to sketch and paint. It's rather a long way to travel for a few short hours, but with sunshine too, we all enjoyed a creative and sociable day. We finished with tea and chat in the local cafe. (Click to enlarge images.)

Harriet made us very welcome in her garden - and her neighbour's garden! - and we had The Green with its large pond nearby too. The sun shone so we had a great day.
Images can be enlarged with a click. A day in the pub was probably not what people had in mind when choosing Laxfield for today's painting location. However, after starting the day with coffee in the Royal Oak, and looking at the drizzly, windy weather outside, some decided to stay inside, as evidenced by the sketches of some local characters below. They obviously liked it there as they stayed for lunch. Others ventured outside or into the neighbouring church and joined the rest for tea in the coziness of the pub.
Enlarge images with a click. Apart from the attractions of the town and the river, there was Sally's delightful garden to entice us. Some of us had to restrain our enthusiasm until after the committee meeting to discuss and plan our various forthcoming activities. Then we were keeping a wary eye on the weather.
