ian serves a trio of options

Ian gave us a medley of diverse subjects today.  The ingredients for a cake, along with the recipe; the paraphernalia of an artist's studio; and, I imagine in a nod to current British success in tennis, himself complete in whites, with racquet and balls, ready for a game.  These proved a good challenge and kept us all busy.
We were reminded at the beginning how distracting it can be when there is too much chat, and everyone heeded Sally T's request.  I have tried to include a panorama of the silent concentration, but I did something wrong in the execution, so it is somewhat askew, and I give my apologies to anyone who is missing ( I now know what I did wrong; too late this time!, and not Noreen's mistake as this is Hannah, sorry).
All hard at work!

Thursday 18th January, Jane at the Bowls Club

Jane was in charge today.  She gave us two very colourful and interesting still life arrangements, including many ingredients which should provide a veritable feast later.  Her outfit as the model was also very colourful - which was reflected in just a few of the sketches.  As usual, we got very varied and interesting results.

After all the furious activity of last week, today was relatively calm and quiet, although I understand some members did feel distracted by the conversations of others during working sessions.  Perhaps reserve these for the coffee break?

Making Mixed Media Art with Gelli Prints

Wow!  Who knew there were so many different papers, paints, other materials and techniques we could use?  Sally began by giving us a run-down on the multitude of availabilities and possibilities (frightening many of us!), before calming us all down and inviting us just to plunge in.  A kind of "suck it and see".  Well, judging by the furious activity with our Gelli plates and piles of papers in the morning, once we'd got going we started to become really creative and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it.  In the afternoon Sally dealt with questions of subject, from pure abstract to realistic, shapes, composition .... (see Sally's chart below), before launching us into using the morning's Gelli prints together with other media to work up collages and mixed media paintings.  What varied and interesting results!  Many thanks were due to Sally for her energy and invaluable advice.

My apologies for any images shown the wrong way up below.  However, Sally did advise us to view our work from different angles.

Thursday 4th January, Eye Bowls Club

It was good to meet up again with everyone after our Christmas break.  Well, not quite everyone as it was a fairly modest turn-out, but very enjoyable nonetheless.  Since Rachel could not do her session (get well soon, Rachel!) everyone rallied round with still-life contributions and spells as the model.  It all worked very well and we had a great time.  Apart from Angela modelling (see right), Jane and Sally T also sat (sorry no photos of them this time).  Some results below.

Remember, next week is the Sally Hirst workshop.  If you haven't yet signed up for it, you need to contact Sally T about it as the numbers will be limited.
