Making Mixed Media Art with Gelli Prints

Wow!  Who knew there were so many different papers, paints, other materials and techniques we could use?  Sally began by giving us a run-down on the multitude of availabilities and possibilities (frightening many of us!), before calming us all down and inviting us just to plunge in.  A kind of "suck it and see".  Well, judging by the furious activity with our Gelli plates and piles of papers in the morning, once we'd got going we started to become really creative and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it.  In the afternoon Sally dealt with questions of subject, from pure abstract to realistic, shapes, composition .... (see Sally's chart below), before launching us into using the morning's Gelli prints together with other media to work up collages and mixed media paintings.  What varied and interesting results!  Many thanks were due to Sally for her energy and invaluable advice.

My apologies for any images shown the wrong way up below.  However, Sally did advise us to view our work from different angles.

Jackie has sent me the following comments for the Blog:

I found the workshop with Sally Hurst on 11 January quite inspiring. At her workshop last January, the process of printing with a 'Gelly Plate' was daunting and it just didn't click with me at all. However, I coped much better with last week's session the previous experience caused me to be much better prepared. The variety of finished work was amazing and its sad that we will have to wait until next winter to have this excellent tutor again.

If, like me, you would like to further explore the techniques of printing, there is an open session on Saturday 10th February at Designer Makers 21, Diss, called 'Print In Action'.
This will run from 11-4 and details will be confirmed nearer the time but visitors will have the chance to try the various methods of printing available on sitel.

I have already signed up for the workshop that is being planned by Annette Rolson at her studio (Designer Makers 21), date to be confirmed.. Jackie
