23RD MAY 2024 - ARCTIC BROCKDISH!

i am grateful to Lesley, Avril and Frances for sending me reports of the day's activities, cut short as they were by the cold.
'A depleted committee [minus Sally P and Jackie, as well as me - Hannah] held a meetiing at the Coach House, thankfully indoors, before five of us braved the cold and wind to sketch on the bank of the River Waveney, under the close scrutiny of some young cattle on the opposite bank.  Less than a minute's sunshine so the light was poor under the trees.  After Tuesday's thunderstorm the river was in spate and indeed further upstream the water meadows at Billingford were flooded again.  Sadly, by lunchtime we were all frozen so abandoned our plein air session for the comfort of our homes. However this was not before we had succumbed to the temptations of the Coach House's plant stall!'
I would challenge anyone who didn't know to guess which month of the year these photos belong to - it could have been November, judging by the light and the way people were dressed.
Never daunted, or not much, the intrepid members produced an array of sketches before wending their ways home to get warmed up.  Rather like Rishi Sunak in his drenched suit last night outside No 10, they had done their bit for art!
So here are two from Avril, and one each from Ian J and Josie:
Picture
This next from Harriet, who has painted a dahlia she bought from the plant stall and took home,
Frances says, 'First a mixture of ink, watercolour and gouache…. Fiddling about really!
Second using my photo when I returned home…. Could do more but had to leave to meet grandchildren. Could even become a real painting… you never know. I’m sure I can gesso over an unwanted one and give it a go!'
Three from Lesley, first the view at Brockdish this morning, then two side of flowers bought at the flower stall, despite her caveats about the unfinished nature of the second painting, wonderful colour in both..
Diana joined in by sending me three pictures from Brockdish in past years; a pen drawing and two collages
Carolyn has produced a drawing of the clematis that is flowering profusely in her garden. And, following Sally L's comments last week, Carolyn obliged by painting a palm tree, with beach, glorious sunshine and blue-green sea, in the hopes that the weather would be encouraged to improve.  It has worked a bit, in that it wasn't raining today, but I reckon we might need a bit more of the same to chivvy the summer along. So, if you aren't able to come next week, but you have a sunny picture from years (or weeks) past.  It would be nice to have some summer on this page, if we can.

Next week's blogger is Avril, so send your contributions to her.  Have a good week, and lleet's hope for some sunshine.
