4 MAY 2023 - AT ANGELA'S GARDEN

So we have got to the first of the summer sessions already, but despite the much trumpeted climate change, it feels like we are only just out of winter.  The wind was still cold today, and although I didn't get to Angela's (out helping my husband with the boat), it was cold for plein air work, and she tells me that only four of the seven or so who came ended up staying until 3, and their fingers were dropping off by then.  I gather they had all enjoyed fruit cake and drinks by then anyway, so any time spent working was a bonus!

In addition to these pictures, Diana took photos as references to use later in the week, at home. 

Here are two of Harriet's paintings that are part of the exhibition in Stradbroke Church (see Exhibitions page); both on the theme of waves.

A lovely study of apple blossom from Maggie-Anne, in watercolour pencil.  She wishes the colour was more subtle, but it looks right to me, the way the colour changes towards the edges.

Frances was at Curwen Print where she spent a day doing Jigsaw lino cuts.

3 Paper I brought home from our cleaning of rollers. Thought it would be useful and could be developed with paint and ink????

Angela says, 'This is a painting inspired by rape fields and Suffolk oaks and ashes. Finished it today though I may leave it hanging about to see if anything comes to mind!'

Here are two drawings by Carolyn, a cactus grown from a cutting and an arrangement of clothes on a chair.  Both sit really well within the space.  Carolyn does find interesting views of ordinary things.

Finally, I'm afraid Sally L has let herself down - after her fantastic presentation of the perfect elements for outdoor sketching last week, what do we find?
'After all that bragging last week I forgot my brush pen, my drawing pen ran out of ink, and my car biro ran dry!
I should have brought more equipment with me…'
