Tom concentrated our thoughts wonderfully on perspective this week and boggled our minds with parallel or angular perspective, single or multiple VPs, positioning of eye line, arches and apexes. This is a subject that can sometimes prove difficult even for the best artists, but Tom has considerable practical and theoretical knowledge of the subject, as can be seen from some of his drawings on his Gallery page (click here). The boxes we were challenged to draw proved somewhat trickier than we thought but we all had a go.
| It is so important to remember where the eye- line is and, in fact, often first to pencil it in lightly in your drawing. It may be helpful to work from the upright of the nearest angle(s) to you and remember that (in a box shape) lines above the eye-line move away from you downwards and lines below move away upwards. A ruler or straight edge held up verticallly or horizontally against an angle helps to judge the degree of angle to draw. Many thanks to Tom for his welcome advice and guidance. |  |
This was our last session at the Bowls Club for the winter season. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on our trip to Cambridge next Thursday, after which we start our Summer Programme outdoors with a visit to Gaze's salesroom with their garden and outdoor lots. Working outdoors will give us lots of opportunities to apply the rules of perspective!
